The location of our house makes it a perfectly well-situated place at the edge of Ardèche, Uzège and the national park of Cévennes.

The village of Gagnières is 2 kilometers away, where there is a small market on Wednesday mornings. For everyday shopping there is also a bakery, a small grocery shop and a pizzeria.

For bigger shops, there are larger markets every day in the local villages as well as numerous supermarkets 6 to 12 kilometers away, and health food stores in Bessèges, les Vans and Saint Ambroix (15 minutes’ drive).

Things to do in the region

La Mine d’or is located 500 meters from the southern boundary of Ardèche, next to the regional parks of Monts d’Ardèche and Cévennes.
It is 14 km away from Les Vans, a village famous for its activities and even the Provence market and its art and history …

Activities are possible all year round thanks to the Mediterranean climate.

Many trails and walks in the Vivarais can be accessed from the village of Les Vans.

 Hiking from la Mine d’or (there are 400 km of hiking trails in the Cévennes and southern Ardèche).

Natural heritage and geology

The CHAUVET PONT D’ARC CAVE (only 35 km away), featuring numerous paintings of animals, is one of the oldest known decorated caves in the world (35000 years old), a future UNESCO world heritage site. It’s one of the most important cultural projects in France. The cave replica is around 3000m2 wide and should be open to the public in 2014.

  • The Cocalière cave in Courry (10 minutes away) is one of the 3 most beautiful caves in France.
  • The Bois de Païolive (15 minutes away): with its petrified rocks and white oaks.
  • The Narcettes peat-bog in Montselgues has some carnivorous plants in a protected environment.
  • The Chassezac gorges (20 minutes away).
  • Vallon Pont d’arc (35 minutes away).
  • Banne, known for the story of the trees of “le bois commun”.
